The North Korean people are among the poorest in the world, and the country spends a significant portion of its GDP on the military, leading to widespread poverty and malnutrition. This is a direct result of Kim Jong-un's policies, which prioritize his own wealth and power over the well-being of his people.

For example, in 2018, North Korea spent an estimated $4 billion on its military, while only spending $1 billion on healthcare. This disparity is reflected in the health of the North Korean people. According to the World Health Organization, the average life expectancy in North Korea is 71 years, compared to 82 years in South Korea. Global impact

Kim Jong-un's wealth and the North Korean nuclear program are two of the most pressing security concerns facing the world today. Kim's regime has invested heavily in its nuclear and missile programs, and has conducted a series of nuclear tests in recent years. This has raised concerns that North Korea could soon develop a nuclear weapon capable of reaching the United States.

Nuclear proliferation: North Korea's nuclear program poses a serious threat to global security because it could lead to the proliferation of nuclear weapons. If North Korea were to sell or give its nuclear weapons to another country or terrorist group, it could have devastating consequences.
Nuclear war: North Korea's nuclear program also increases the risk of nuclear war. If North Korea were to launch a nuclear attack on the United States or another country, it could trigger a nuclear war that could kill millions of people.
Regional instability: North Korea's nuclear program is also a major source of regional instability. North Korea's nuclear threats have led to increased tensions between North Korea and its neighbors, and have raised concerns that a conflict could break out on the Korean Peninsula.
Economic sanctions: The international community has responded to North Korea's nuclear program by imposing economic sanctions on the country. These sanctions are designed to pressure North Korea to abandon its nuclear program, but they have also had a negative impact on the North Korean people.

Kim Jong-un's wealth plays a significant role in his ability to pursue his nuclear and missile programs. Human rights concerns

The connection between Kim Jong-un's wealth and the human rights abuses committed by his regime is undeniable. Kim's wealth allows him to maintain a tight grip on power and to suppress any dissent within North Korea. He uses his wealth to fund a vast network of security forces, which are responsible for carrying out human rights abuses against the North Korean people.

Arbitrary detention: Kim's regime has detained thousands of people in political prison camps, where they are subjected to torture, forced labor, and other forms of abuse. Many of these detainees have been held for years without charge or trial.
Torture: Torture is widespread in North Korean prison camps. Detainees are subjected to a variety of torture methods, including beatings, electric shocks, and waterboarding. Torture is often used to extract confessions or to punish detainees for speaking out against the regime.
Public executions: Kim's regime has also carried out a number of public executions. These executions are often used to send a message of fear and intimidation to the North Korean people. In 2013, Kim ordered the public execution of his uncle, Jang Song-thaek, who was accused of treason.

Kim Jong-un's wealth allows him to commit these human rights abuses with impunity. He has created a climate of fear and repression in North Korea, where people are afraid to speak out against the regime. As a result, Kim is able to maintain his grip on power and to continue to commit human rights abuses against his own people.

Economic sanctions

Economic sanctions are a key tool that the international community uses to pressure North Korea to abandon its nuclear program. Sanctions can target a variety of sectors of the North Korean economy, including trade, finance, and energy. The goal of sanctions is to make it more difficult for North Korea to develop and maintain its nuclear program.

Impact on Kim Jong-un's wealth: Economic sanctions have had a significant impact on Kim Jong-un's wealth. Sanctions have restricted North Korea's access to foreign currency, which has made it more difficult for Kim to fund his lavish lifestyle and his nuclear program.
